Cardiac surgery has evolved to such extent that it has changed the face of medical science.
Cardiac surgery is the specialty involved with the treatment of diseases affecting organs within the chest and blood vessels, principally the heart and lungs. It is a relatively young specialty which has grown rapidly after the Second World War. Procedures of cardiac surgery are often prolonged and complex, which requires support from advanced forms of technology during surgery and intensive therapy for the patient post surgery.

Principle subspecialties of Cardiac surgery in India
- The major sub-specialities are cardiac, thoracic and congenital, each having its own characteristics
- Cardiac: Cardiac surgery in adults is majorly carried for treating coronary heart disease, but in an ageing population the need for valve surgery is rising. Coronary artery surgery is probably the most studied operation of all time. It is a long surgical procedure but comparatively safe with an early hospital mortality rate of 1.5 per cent.
- Thoracic: Thoracic speciality is concerned with conditions of the lungs, chest wall, oseophagus and diaphragm, and is generally dominated by treatment of malignant disease.
- Congenital: It is the most challenging type of cardiac surgery, practised only by a small group of highly skilled and specialized surgeons.
Main cardiac surgeries performed
- Valve replacement (cardiac) – the replacement procedure of an aortic valve with a transplanted or mechanical valve.
- Coronary artery graft (cardiac) – the process replacing of coronary arteries with veins or arteries from elsewhere on the body
- Pneumonectomy (thoracic) – the procedure where a whole lung is removed
- Wedge resection (thoracic) – the process of removing a section of the lung
- Lobectomy (thoracic) – the removal of a lobe of the lung.
- Kumgang Healthcare helps patients across the world to undergo cardiac surgery in India without any trouble and help them in whole recovery from their illness.
